Abigail Lufkin, Therapist & Sports Psychology Consultant
Individuals and Couples
I have been studying and practicing psychotherapy for the past 15 years. As a graduate of USC, I have been trained in psychodynamic work, cognitive behavioral therapy, and hypnosis. In addition, I am a Certified Gottman couples therapist.
I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work on a daily basis with individuals and couples who are working to live their best lives. I believe that all of us possess great strength and wisdom. People come to me when something is interfering with their ability to tap into their strength and access their wisdom.
My many years spent as a top athlete not only inform my sports psychology practice, but also my traditional counseling one. Whether your goal is in life, in sport, in business, or in relationships, I can help you recognize and realize your full potential.
Sports Psychology
I am a sports psychology consultant and clinical social worker currently based in the Los Angeles area. I work with equestrian athletes from a variety of disciplines including dressage, eventing, show jumping, driving and cutting. My involvement in cycling has exposed me to cyclists and triathletes, and I have worked extensively with these and other endurance athletes as well as soccer players, tennis players and martial artists. I consult with clients of different ages and at all levels of their sport and stages of their competitive careers. While my clients come from a variety of competitive back grounds, the mental skills they need to enhance training as well as competitiveness is the same across sports. My experience as a competitor enables me to be especially insightful and creative with you. I have written articles for Velo News and Eventing Nation, The Chronicle of the Horse and Eventing On-Line as well as been a feature guest on Horse Radio.com. I have presented at the USEA annual convention, and I give presentations and conduct work-shops for clubs, teams, and organizations across the country.
